I'm an undergraduate final year student at the University of Sussex reading BA English Language and French. I have spent the last year in France on my year abroad and am now looking forward to returning to Sussex for my final year. In my first and second years, I achieved a 74% average.
Experience
During my A level years, I tutored GCSE Spanish and assisted year 7 and 8 students in French and Spanish lessons at school. In my second year at University I worked as a GCSE English tutor for the government scheme, Aim Higher in secondary schools. During my year abroad in France, I tutored a French teenager in English and volunteered at a Youth Centre helping with English conversation classes for young people aged twelve to fifteen. After having left Spain with a decent average (8/10) in my ESO (the Spanish equivalent of GCSEs), I achieved 4 A grades at A level in Spanish, French, English Lang/Lit and Business Studies. I enjoy tutoring because of the fulfilment which comes from helping students achieve their targets.I am passionate about my subjects and feel that my previous experience working with students of various nationalities has led me to encounter many styles of learning and has helped me to pinpoint the needs of different students. My experience growing up with two languages has helped me understand the complexities of multilingualism, and learning French as a foreign language has shown me the difficulty of acquiring a second language, which helps me to understand the issues faced by students who are struggling with their foreign language subjects. Taking English at A level and undergraduate level after having lived in Spain most of my life means I am familiar with the complications that arise from studying your own language as an academic subject. Having grown up in Spain, I am bilingual in English and Spanish.
