Experience

I spent last year teaching English in a French sixth-form college as part of the British Council Language Assistant scheme. I taught one-on-one lessons, as well as whole classes, so I have experience with private tutoring. Out there, I really got the teaching bug so when I returned, I spent the summer working for Education First, teaching English to international students of mixed ages at a summer camp in Brighton! I am also a qualified Brownie Guider, so I have experience with younger children too. As well as all that, I have been a dance teacher for the last four years, teaching adults as well as students. Having spent last year living in France, I am fluent in French and I keep contact with the friends I made there in order to keep my language skills up-to-date. I have always enjoyed teaching and helping others, as well as learning languages, and next year will be studying for a PGCE in order to become a Modern Languages teacher in a secondary school. I have experience with all ages, from 7 to adult, and will tailor your lessons to suit you. I firmly believe that people learn best when they are having fun so I try to motivate my students as much as possible, encouraging humour and lively discussions. Of course, it's important to do the spadework too, and so I work on grammar, good writing technique and so on as well. But I don't have a one-size-fits-all approach to lessons: I like to get to know the tutee, find out what interests them and select texts, topics and activities accordingly. Above all, I want the tutee to feel comfortable expressing themselves, not worry about making mistakes, and enjoy learning languages as much as I do!
